As biology states that reproduction causes the birth of new offspring with some minor genetic changes. On this basis, scientists proposed a theory called proto chicken or proto egg theory.

What is the proto chicken theory?

At the time of dinosaurs, they give birth to an egg which gives baby dinosaur with minor genetic changes (some different traits from parents). So in the future, this baby dinosaur also gives birth to another dinosaur with some genital changes and this cycle goes on.

So scientists believed that after 10000 years new species of dinosaurs took birth which is different from the previous one and looks like a chicken called proto chicken and it gives birth to another egg called proto egg which gives pure chicken which we see today.

Here arise two cases:-

  • When we take proto chicken gave birth proto egg then we can say chicken came first.
  • When we take proto egg gave birth to pure chicken then we can say egg came first.

Though this theory itself have some limitations the choice is up to you that what you consider.
