Hantavirus: News of Person Dying Due to Another Virus in China

 Global Times in a tweet reported that a person from the Yunnan Province in Southwest China died while on his way back to Shandong Province for work on a bus on Monday (March 23, 2020).

He was reportedly tested positive for Hantavirus. The tweet further informed that the remaining 32 people on the bus were tested and the results are not immediately revealed.


Don't Panic

People are worrying that Hantavirus is like Coronavirus which is not true. Hantavirus is spread through rodent urine,feces or saliva. It is not airborne i.e it can't be transmitted through human to human contact.

Centre for Disease Control and Prevention's website states, 'Rodent infestation in and around the home remains the primary risk for Hantavirus exposure. Even healthy individuals are at risk for HPS infection if exposed to the virus'.

Symptoms of Hantavirus

Symptoms of Hantavirus includes:
  • Fever
  • Headache
  • Abdominal pain
  • Dizziness
  • Chills
  • Muscle ache
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhoea 

So don't panic, it's a very old virus that is now seen in China. So stay at home and help to fight against coronavirus.
